There's two sides to the current state of dietary information. One is that due to marketing, misinformation has become widespread. Today, it's more difficult than ever to navigate the complex world of nutrition because of myths, varying opinions, and new scientific discoveries. On the other hand, there's another side that is probably the best general approach for most of us, and that is just use common sens.
For instance, there are highly contested issues within the nutrition scientific community such as the good or bad effects of eggs, the viability of intermittent fasting, Keto diets, and a variety of others. There are groups of people that swear by their particular side as the best health regimen on the planet, but if it were so cut and dry, there probably wouldn't be a debate at all.
Meanwhile, is there much debate over whether a salad is a better choice over a slice of pizza? Or that a focus on fruits and vegetables are preferred over high amounts of processed food? Nope. These are generally accepted facts among most people and are therefore, common knowledge to most of us.
Sure, you can get into the nut and bolts of macro and micro nutrients, but crawl before you walk. Start off with just making better, common sense food choices. You'll see improvements in your health and waistline, all without having to get an amateur doctorate in nutrition. Next time at lunch, opt for water over that soda. Choose a higher protein option over something made up primarily of bread. Or simply work on incorporating more green vegetables into your meals. If you're reading this than you obviously have a fair amount of wits about you, so now just go a step further and use those smarts to get your weight loss jump started with your next meal choice!
